So many good things happened this week! Here’s a list of some of them:
1. Craig and Colleen came into rehearsal this week for 44 Plays for 44 Presidents to work on music and movement. They’re both so good at what they do and we had a blast. Here’s some awkward-politician-dancing proof:
2. square product theatre officially brought in three new awesome company members: Laurie Lynch, Virginia Miller, and Michelle Moore. I’m so excited to have them all on board. They’re AWESOME. + it was Michelle’s birthday on Thursday so we got to have cupcakes at rehearsal. Virginia’s birthday was Friday and our neighbor Deb made her a delicious cake. There are now a lot of Virgos on the square roster. Our new mantra (coined by Laurie the Scorpio during a particularly intense moment in the dressing room for 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche): let it go, Virgo!
3. The DNC, the DNC, the DNC! Bill Clinton is brilliant, and so are the Obamas. Are the Democrats perfect? No. But Jesus H. Christ they are so obviously superior to the alternative that it’s almost funny. I can’t imagine why anyone would support the shit show that the Republican party has become.
4. Cat Power released a new album. FINALLY. It’s good! You should buy it!
5. This happened: football brilliance. It made me laugh. A lot.
6. B and Andryn got hitched!
7. Laurie and Andie closed on the estate! Cletus is thrilled to have more space.
8. I gave my Intro to Theatre class their first quiz on Friday. One of my students wrote a note to me on his quiz stating that we should be friends. That’s adorable! He’ll feel differently come exam time, but still: adorable. Yet another student told me that he’s going to work hard to be my favorite student. What is happening?!?! Have I stumbled into an alternate universe in which learning about theatre is something people give a crap about? I love these kids!
9. I met with Grif to talk about a video project attached to 44 Plays for 44 Presidents and the good news is: I think it’ll be kick ass. Because: he’s kick ass. After: I had ice cream with Erin at Sweet Action. She had blood orange sorbet and I had triple chocolate. We both opted for cake cones, which remind me of being a kid. Erin is friends with one of the owners and they refused to let us pay for our ice cream. Free ice cream! Is there anything better? The answer: NO. Over our ice cream, we talked about timing for a collaboration we want to do, throw downs over costumes, and the things that people say. Finally we realized that it was weird to sit in an ice cream shoppe for so long.
10. I booked my airfare to LA to work with Gleason on SLAB for a week in December. I’m really looking forward to it. I love working with Gleason, and while I realize it’s not a popular opinion: I like LA. I can’t wait to see my all my LA friends!
11. A couple of times, it almost felt like Fall. Normally the summertimes are my favorite times, but man, I am ready for the falltimes this year. Past ready. I’m dying to show off my jacket collection.
12. Yesterday, I stopped wishing for something that’s never going to happen and started instead to work for something better. It was a welcome shift, and kind of took me by surprise: it just happened. Consequently: I slept better last night than I have in months.
13. This:
