It’s October 9th, and you know what that means: The US Congress is f*cking useless.
That assholery aside, some of us are actually trying to make progress by moving forward instead of backward. Life goes on, I suppose. Here’s how:
1. Wendy Davis announced her bid for the Governership of Texas. Girrrrrrl. You had me at “catheter.” Not since our beloved Ann Richards has Texas had such an exciting candidate. Here’s what I love: Davis earned a Bachelor’s degree in English before graduating with honors from Harvard Law. You heard me: SHE HAS AN ENGLISH DEGREE. This, in my opinion, is very, very good news. It proves that she can read, among other things.
2. Some of you owe me money: I’m coming for it.
3. Some of you owe me an apology. I’ll keep my expectations low and my eyes on the horizon. But I’m here to tell you: it’s now or never.
4. Some of you may feel you are owed an apology. I’m probably sorry, but you’re going to have to be more specific: I make mistakes regularly.
5. I think you need to cool off. Chill out. Maybe we all should just say we’re sorry. Let’s shake hands and move on with our lives. Let’s stop showing up in each others’ dreams by showing up in each others’ lives. I will show up for you.
6. LA and I finally got a chance to get away for a few days and headed up to Steamboat. We stayed at Judy’s and it was so unbelievably nice. I had to work a little while we were there, but mostly, we just spent time together. We worked on being anchors for each other. We drank a little wine and ate a lot of cookies. We chatted with Judy, who is hilarious and lovely. We went and visited Perry-Mansfield. Ironically, we were both there the same year: 2004. Me as a costume designer, LA as a dance student. I didn’t design for dance, so I don’t remember her. She thinks she remembers me. But she’s not sure. It was a transformative time for both of us, in different ways. And to think: there we both were, ships, sails, anchors.
7. Season 4 of Eastbound and Down has BEGUN. Oh hell to the yes!
8. Today I got a grant for a show. Any day is a good day to get a grant for a show, but today was a particularly good day to get a grant for a show. Please, give me more grants for the show. Today. Tomorrow. In the future.
9. Maybe you’ll come see the show, when it’s ready. I’ll keep you posted.
10. Monday, I scared Bhanu so badly that she screamed. Really loud. Last week, I did the same to LA, after watching a particularly creepy episode of Twin Peaks. I wonder what has gotten into me lately that makes me want to scare people.
11. The new Mazzy Star album is beautiful. It reminds me of something, but I don’t quite know what.
12. Instead of Mazzy Star, here’s some Besnard Lakes: just for you.
