Last night Gleason, Christina, Gustine, and I went to The Bus Stop. I don’t even know how to describe what it made me feel. As one of the dancers said, “You’re a Gemini, you don’t show any emotion! You’re an air sign, like me!” I asked her if she’d been talking to my therapist. She laughed. She told us about how angry she is. She told us about her early onset arthritis. She told us that she’s a feminist, and that further, it’s hard to be a feminist in the business because: the business, like pretty much every business, is run by men. She told us that she feels guilty about participating in a system that perpetuates the subjugation of women. Still: she makes a lot of money. She told us that she quit working for a while and tried to get a regular job, but wasn’t qualified to do anything regular. So she returned to dancing. She’s 22.
While she danced and we sipped our beers in the corner, Colorado continued to burn. 360 homes lost in the Black Forest Fire, making it the most destructive fire in the state’s history. It is currently 0% contained.
The Big Meadows fire is 0% contained. The Royal Gorge fire is only 20% contained. And it’s windy.
In Boulder, there are birds and chainsaws: a coming haze.
