When you let go, I will let go, too.

Yesterday I had a video shoot for the play I’m directing, 44 Plays for 44 PresidentsProductions from across the country (44 in total) will send a video of their staging of one of the presidents (obviously we’re all assigned someone different) and a composite video production will then be assembled and will stream online beginning a week before the election. Pretty cool.

Our assigned prez is Teddy Roosevelt. Let me tell you: Teddy Roosevelt was a total badass. It has been speculated that in a mass knife fight to the death between every American President, Teddy would be the ultimate victor. We chose Teddy because of his associations with Colorado. Roosevelt was a leader in preservation: he created 5 National Parks, 150 National Forests, and put 230 million acres of U.S. land under Federal Protection.

The Teddy Roosevelt play in 44 Plays for 44 Presidents is one of my favorites: it’s funny, moving, informative, and paints a wonderful portrait of a truly unique and fascinating man. + it requires very shaggy moustaches, which is always a bonus in my book. Jess helped me make a face-in-a-hole portrait of Teddy for the shoot, and I was struck by how much the guy looked like my father. It’s super freaky, actually: the resemblance is uncanny. I think they probably would have gotten along, too.

Here’s a portrait of our face-in-a-(w)hole creation: in honor of my previous post, I like to call it “Dada Teddy.”

The shoot itself went really well, and we had a lot of fun. Griffith and Chris were a dream to work with, and we’re all excited to see what the final product looks likes. Grif hooked us up with a very cool space in Denver called Photospace – it was super swanky, the perfect place to get the job done. Michelle, a Virgo to the very core, took lots of pictures. Here’s one of Chanel and Grif:

Look at Teddy go!

The full moon lit my way home after we wrapped. Tonight the waning work begins.

I needed to get out of the house today, so I drove – I love driving. I drove through Boulder Canyon, into Roosevelt National Forest, and looked at the leaves changing. It is officially Fall. I don’t mind it.

Tomorrow, we will all wake up and it will be October for the first time this year. Can you believe it? October.

Goodbye, September.
